The Patriots win over the Seahawks in Super Bowl 49 has placed Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in rare company. Brady joins Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw as the only quarterbacks to win four Super Bowls.
Belichick ties Chuck Knoll for the most Super Bowl wins by a head coach. And keep in mind Brady has more postseason wins (21) than any other player in NFL history and Belichick has more post season wins (22) than any coach in NFL history.
However, particularly in the case of Belichick, when you have to ad a qualifier like "but" or "despite" or "unfortunately" to complete the sentence relative to talk about one's legacy then it's tarnished. And make no mistake about it you can't help but include "spygate" into the conversation when measuring or talking about Belichick's legacy. It's a known fact, he was caught and penalized for cheating the game to gain an advantage. Bottom line his greatness will have an asterisk attached to it.
In the case of Brady, I doubt seriously that anything can be proven to link him unquestionably to "deflate gate" so I truly believe when talking about the game's greatest quarterback that the conversation now starts with Brady with Montana now trailing as a close second. The Super Bowl 49 Patriots win pushes Brady to the top but leaves an asterisk next to Belichick.
