MESA, Ariz. — The Mesa Police Department announced the end of a search for a missing elderly man on Wednesday after his body was found near the 202 freeway and University Drive.
88-year-old Robert Haymaker of Mesa was last seen at his home near N 92nd Street and E McLellan Road on the morning of June 14. His son reported him missing later that evening to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, officials said Haymaker suffered from a medical condition and a high risk of becoming confused and lost.
Haymaker was found deceased on June 18 by Mesa maintenance workers near a retention wall.
Mesa police conducted a preliminary death investigation and said no foul play was suspected in his death.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the body and will determine the official cause of death.
