ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Most of the threats from former Hurricane Helene are now in our rear-view mirror, but the damage the storm caused across North Carolina cannot be understated.
Helene caused massive flooding across the state, especially in western counties. Roads flooded. Cars were swept away. And others found themselves in waist-deep water before things were said and done.
Here's a look at some of the craziest images and videos we have seen to come from the storm Friday.
Flooding in Asheville
WFMY News 2 crews captured a car being swept away by flood waters Friday morning in Asheville. Duke Energy reported that more than half-a-million customers in NC were without power Friday morning.

Potential tornadoes
Multiple people in our viewing area have captured videos of possible funnel clouds forming across the Triad.
This first one comes from Stoneville in Rockingham County.
This one was spotted in Eden.
And this one was caught in Caswell County.
Flooding in Wilkes County
High rain levels caused the Yadkin River to overflow into several nearby areas, including Wilkesboro. This photo in particular shows just how much water was still standing Friday afternoon in the town.
Things were pretty dire Thursday night too, as the Wilkes Rescue Squad was called out to the Millers Creek community in the western part of the county for a water rescue.
Here, you can see crews using an inflatable raft to make their way toward a residence surrounded by floodwaters.
Damage in Rockingham County
Rockingham County saw several Tornado Warnings Friday afternoon in the wake of Helene. While there haven't been any confirmed touch-downs yet, the area has still seen some pretty extensive damage.

Trouble in Boone
Boone was one of the areas in western North Carolina to feel the brunt of Helene on Thursday and Friday. Here's a video a viewer sent in of a street in Boone completely flooded with water.
In another look at the town provided by the Boone Police Department, we can multiple cars covered with debris. Approximately 12 inches of rain has fallen in Boone over the last several days.
Wilkes County Water Rescue
A person was trapped inside their car due to the heavy flow of water. The Wilkes Rescue Squad, Roaring River VFD and the Ronda Fire Department were able to save the person from being swept away by flood waters.
