PHOENIX — As temperatures are only uphill from here, now is the perfect time to go over some heat safety reminders.
In Arizona, it doesn't take much for the temperature inside your vehicle to heat up.
Even when the outside temperature is 85 degrees, the inside of your vehicle will climb to 114 degrees in as little as 30 minutes. On 95-degree days, the inside of your vehicle will approach 124 degrees in half an hour.
VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL: No olive revisar su carro durante el verano, le decimos la razón
Once those 110-degree days return, you can expect the inside of your car to heat up to a whopping 157 degrees in one hour. The greenhouse effect prevents long-wave radiation emitted from the hot surfaces inside the vehicle from escaping the glass and the car.
Combine the greenhouse effect with the powerful Arizona sun, and your vehicle will quickly bake.
Every year, we always go over these seemingly common-sense tips; sometimes we get caught up in the daily bustle of life, so we need these hot car safety reminders:
- Keep the child's diaper/travel bag in the front passenger seat as a reminder.
- Make a habit of opening the back door every time you park.
- Have childcare call right away if the child has not arrived on time.
- Always confirm who gets the child out of the car. Over-communicate!
- Keep vehicles locked and keys out of reach of children.
