City restricting hiking at Camelback Mountain during Fourth of July weekend

An excessive heat warning has prompted the city to close hiking trails at Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PHOENIX — Hiking at Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak will be limited this Fourth of July weekend due to extreme heat.

The City of Phoenix is closing all trails at the two sites from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Saturday, July 1, and thru Tuesday, July 4.

The National Weather Service expects temperatures in the Valley to reach 115 degrees during the holiday weekend.

Phoenix residents are also strongly discouraged from attempting to hike any other recreational trails in the city.

Safety guidelines for hiking Phoenix's public trails can be found here.
