Free TV that could cost you

Watching TV shows and movies for free on this new site could really cost you later.
Watching TV shows and movies for free on this new site could really cost you later.

Watching TV show and movies for free sounds like a dream come true. But how free could it be? The website is called Project Free TV and it has a ton of many popular shows and movies. Tempting, but don't let it fool you.

The site says you can "Watch all your favorite TV shows and movies online for free." However, accessing this site anywhere may not always be easy. When we tried to access the site at work, we received several security warnings.

"This is not a site that I would recommend to anybody. It's full of cookies and malware," said Jefferson Graham, USA Today tech reporter.

"They're trying to figure out a way to sell you things," he added, " It's not like bad guy I'm going to go rob a bank. They're going to do a site where they're taking copyrights that don't belong to them. tThey're going try to make money off the person who goes there."

Graham warns that no matter what your friends tell you, don't be tempted by Project Free TV. You could end up with viruses and a costly computer repair.

"Whether it's taking over their computer or throwing search bars onto their browser that they didn't want," he said. "All sorts of things like that where they take control of your computer, put things in there that you don't want but they get paid."

Instead, try the networks' sites for full-length high-quality free TV shows or spend significantly less than your monthly cable bill by choosing a cheaper paid streaming services.

"In theory you could buy a digital antenna if you're in the right location and do Netflix and Hulu Plus and with those three things you're going to get much of what you want," said Graham. "If you do Netflix and Hulu Plus you're looking at $15 to $17 a month."
