Phoenix man arrested after DPS trooper seizes more than 21 lbs. of suspected cocaine in Texas traffic stop

DPS officials said the drugs were being transported from Phoenix to New York.

CARSON COUNTY, Texas — More than 21 pounds of suspected cocaine was seized by a Texas Highway Patrol trooper over the weekend during a traffic stop in Carson County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said at 3:08 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, the trooper stopped a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling east on Interstate 40 near Groom for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper found eight plastic-wrapped bundles of suspected cocaine.

DPS special agents and Drug Enforcement Administration special agents were contacted and helped with the investigation. DEA took charge of the case from DPS.

The driver, Ryan Reyes, 22, of Phoenix, Arizona, was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail in Amarillo for felony possession of a controlled substance.

DPS said the drugs were reportedly being transported from Phoenix, Arizona, to New York.
