CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Body-worn camera footage captured the tense moments Friday morning as a Casa Grande police officer worked to help a man trapped inside a burning home.
Shortly before 5 a.m. Friday, Officer Samuel was dispatched to reports of a structure fire near Ash Avenue and Florence Street. Upon arrival, the officer learned a resident was trapped inside behind a steel security door with a padlock fastened to it.
"We're going to get you out, stay with me," the officer is heard saying in the video as he attempts to open the door.
After trying to break off the lock, the officer is seen ripping the door off its frame, allowing the resident to escape.
Casa Grande police said the home was destroyed by the fire and the resident was treated at the scene. Three police officers were evaluated for smoke inhalation and two, including Samuel, were taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
