Her book, "The Trunk Murderess: Winnie Ruth Judd", even earned her a nomination for an Edgar Allan Poe Award.

Her unwavering dedication to advocacy, which was recognized when she was named Media Person of the Year in 2007 by the Arizona Psychological Association, was a testament to her commitment to social issues. Her Phoenix magazine columns, which addressed domestic violence, underserved communities, and mental illness, were a powerful tool for change.

She also received awards from the Arizona Press Club for her investigative reporting of the Kobe Bryant rape case and a probe into former Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s entrapment of a teenager for a publicity stunt in 2006.

Bommersbach would later be inducted into the Arizona Women’s Hall of Fame in 2020.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego recognized Bommersbach's contributions to State 48.

"Jana Bommersbach was an icon; her fearless journalism and captivating storytelling about Arizona were unmatched. She was also a devoted advocate for Phoenix libraries. Jana will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with her family and everyone touched by her work," said Gallego.
