AVON, Ind. — An Avon man is facing charges after he told police he broke into his former Chick-fil-A co-worker's home to perform an exorcism.
Just after 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, Avon Police Department officers responded to the 1300 block of Fir Lane, near East County Road 625 East, after a caller reported a possible home burglary.
According to court documents, officers arrived on the scene and spoke with the homeowner who said a man broke into the house through the window and wasn't supposed to be there.
Police yelled for the intruder and heard responses from around the house from the 38-year-old suspect. Officers then advised the man to come out of the house with his hands up, which he complied with and came out "covered in blood," according to court documents.
When asked why there was blood all over him, the man allegedly said, "I had to break in the window. I have to do an exorcism here tonight."
The man allegedly told police that he was trying to save a female, who was upstairs in the house, by performing an exorcism with a CD he had brought.
"Play track number three, that will save her," the man allegedly told police.
Police then detained the man.
During the investigation, officers learned the homeowner has known the intruder since 2002 and they worked together at Chick-fil-A. Officers at the scene also found blood throughout the house, along with a bloody CD.
The man was taken by medics to a local hospital, where he was admitted due to his mental state. He is facing charges of criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and residential entry.
A spokesperson with Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, confirmed to 13News that the man has not worked at the fast food chain for 20 years.
