AVONDALE, Ariz. — An Avondale man allegedly shot and killed his wife on Tuesday, and is now facing possible murder and kidnapping charges, the Avondale Police Department said.
Officers were called to the area for reports of shots fired and a woman screaming. When police arrived, the officers encountered 53-year-old Jose Chagnon, who reportedly barricaded himself inside a home before eventually surrendering.
The victim, Chagnon's wife who's been identified as 29-year-old Amalia Raouf Ishak, was taken to a hospital where she did not survive her injuries.
The shooting appears to be "domestic in nature," and there's no longer a threat to the community, Avondale police said.
Chagnon is facing a charge of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of kidnapping, and one count of endangerment.
No other injuries were reported.
The deceased woman's identity has not been disclosed.
