PHOENIX — Authorities are battling a wildfire in southern Arizona that is restricting traffic in the area.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a Facebook post late Sunday that deputies responded to the so-called Redington Pass Fire.
The fire was burning near Redington Road milepost 6 in the Coronado National Forest.
Deputies are also assisting the U. S. Forest Service.
"As fires are dangerous and unpredictable and emergency personnel need a clear roadway to respond, traffic will be restricted in this area," the department said.
The fire size is approximately 65 acres, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
A hotshot crew worked overnight Monday and forward progress has been stopped, meaning the fire is no longer spreading.
Fire engines and a hotshot crew will be supported by aircraft Monday as they mop up, strengthening fireline around the fire perimeter and putting out hot spots.
The National Weather Service said early Monday that the smell of smoke was in the air in parts of Tucson due to the fire.
The fire is believed to be human-caused and is under investigation.
