DUI suspect crashes into police officer's patrol vehicle, Wickenburg PD says

WICKENBURG, Ariz. — A man has been arrested after police say he injured a Wickenburg police officer while driving under the influence, according to authorities.

The Wickenburg Police Department said the incident happened early Sunday morning at around 1 a.m.

Police arrested Jheovanny Penuelas Fernandez, 24, in connection with the incident.

According to police, it began when officers tried to stop a speeding Cadillac SUV being driven by Fernandez.

Fernandez sped away in an attempt to allude to police because "he had been drinking and had other criminal matters pending," police said.

"Fernandez was driving through neighborhoods and collided, head-on, with one of our officers after we stopped following him," police said.

Police said the officer suffered minor injuries. Fernandez was uninjured.

Fernandez is facing the following charges: 

  • Aggravated assault
  • Endangerment
  • Unlawful flight
  • DUI (0.133%)
  • Reckless driving
  • Criminal speed
