The city of Tucson is launching a free GED testing program at Pima Community College.
Taking the high school equivalency test typically costs about $140, and city leaders think the cost is too high and becomes a barrier.
Mayor Jonathan Rothschild announced the free GED testing was made possible by a donation from Wells Fargo.
GED recipients in Tucson earn about $7,000 more a year than people without high school diplomas, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
