Tucson 2-year-old dies after being found in backyard pool

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Pima Community Sheriff's Department reports that a 2-year-old child has died after a drowning incident in Avra Valley on Nov. 5.

According to PCSD, at 2:45 p.m., deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Tucson Mountain District, responded to North Avra Vista Drive.

Upon arrival, deputies and Avra Valley Fire Department personnel found a family member administering life-saving measures. Firefighters took over the efforts before transporting the child to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, the child later succumbed to their injuries.

Detectives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit responded to the scene to gather evidence, conduct interviews, and process the area. The initial investigation indicated that the child had fallen into a swimming pool and was found unresponsive minutes later.

The investigation is ongoing. No further details are being released at this time.
