A fire along the Mogollon Rim grew to 500 acres Friday.
The Tinder Fire is two miles east of C.C. Cragin (Blue Ridge) Reservoir, near Happy Jack.
About 200 firefighters are working on the fire on forest land.
Five areas have been placed on pre-evacuation notice: Starlight Pines, Moqui Ranchettes, Clear Creek Pines, Tamarron Pines and Blue Ridge Estates. People in these areas should be prepared for possible evacuations, according to officials with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office.
Smoke from the fire may limit visibility on SR 87 and nearby forest roads as well as communities near Moqui Ranch and Starlight Pines.
About 500 homes structures northeast of the fire, the East Clear Creek watershed and various protected species have been consider at risk.
The fire was spotted Friday at 11:45 a.m.
Several firefighter crews have responded, including the Payson Task Force, an air tanker, an air lead and a Type I helicopter.
