PHOENIX - A man has died after being shot by a Phoenix police officer Saturday.

Police say the man was pointing a gun at neighbors near Diana and 35th avenues in Phoenix around 7 a.m.

Police identified the man as 48-year-old Ronald Barney Monday morning.

Upon arrival, police found Barney, who then got in his car and left the scene.

Barney got out of his car just a block away on Ruth Avenue east of 37th Avenue and pointed a handgun at the officers. One of the officers shot the suspect, police said.

Barney was transported to the hospital where he later died.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

This is the 45th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County this year. Late Saturday night, Mesa police officers responded to the 46th officer-involved shooting in the Valley. In 2017, there were 43 total, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
