Did you see those strange lights in the sky last night?
ADOT sure did on its traffic cameras, sharing photos that showed some very peculiar sights in the night sky from I-17 Wednesday night. The tweets appear to have since been deleted.
The National Weather Service in the Bay Area saw it too.
"Anyone else see this interesting cloud feature? We saw it here at the office," NWS Bay Area tweeted.
So what was it? Another Space X rocket launch?
One person in the Phoenix subreddit wrote it was the "return of the Phoenix lights."
But it was neither Space X nor those Phoenix lights.
The launch of a classified satellite from a California Air Force Base was canceled prior to the strange sightings occurring, according to reports.
Well if it wasn't a rocket launch then there's only one other thing it could be, right?
Sorry, it wasn't aliens either. There's something else it could've been.
Astronomers say it was probably a meteor entering the atmosphere.
"Based on what I see in the video, I am guessing it is a meteor from the Geminids. It appears to be going toward earth or down. Just a great bit of timing. Squiggly line due to wind currents. My two cents," Walt Heiges, president of Sacramento Valley Astronomical Society, said in statement to 12 News sister station KXTV in Sacramento.
