Spring break in Arizona: Dead Horse Ranch State Park

Nestled in the high desert about two hours north of Phoenix is Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Don't worry, it's a lot more glamorous than it sounds, only about 30 minutes away from Sedona.

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. - Looking for a cool oasis just outside of the desert? How about one that offers affordable cabins right by the water and Sedona? Day two of our springs break parks' guide takes us to Cottonwood, at Dead Horse Ranch State Park.

Nestled in the high desert about two hours north of Phoenix is Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Don't worry, it's a lot more glamorous than it sounds, only about 30 minutes away from Sedona.

There are camping cabins if tents aren't for you, plus more than 100 large RV campsites. It's a huge park with a lot of space.

Here's where the green comes in, the rolling Verde River. There are lush cottonwood trees offering more shade than we're used to in the desert. You can spend the day fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing, hiking or venturing to Slide Rock State Park and Jerome. They're both a short jaunt away.

It's a splendid escape from the desert heat. For more information on how to book your spring break getaway, click here.
