YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. — A man and woman are dead after shots were fired earlier Tuesday near Prescott, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said.
Preliminary information suggests a husband may have shot his estranged wife as she was trying to escape her home, the sheriff's office said. A YCSO reserve deputy living nearby intervened by firing his weapon.
It is not yet clear how many shots were fired by the reserve deputy during the altercation.
The sheriff's office has asked the Arizona Department of Public Safety to oversee the investigation. No identities have been disclosed.
