GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. - Strong and gusty winds continue to present a challenge for crews battling the Sawmill Fire. The fire is burning about 10 miles southeast of Green Valley near the Coronado National Forest.
It started Sunday, according to fire officials, and has since grown to between 17,000 and 20,000 acres -- based on a visual estimate.
Two air tankers, three helicopters and crews of approximately 300 firefighters are battling the blaze, according to fire officials.
Fire officials say several communities have already been evacuated, and evacuations are underway at Hilton Ranch and the general vicinity.
According to fire officials, gusty winds and broken topography have contributed to the growth of the fire which is burning through tall grass, brush and woodland areas.
The Associated Press reports that State Route 83 is closed from Sonoita to roughly 10 miles south of Interstate 10.
