PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Investigators are working to learn the cause behind a large-scale apartment fire in Prescott Valley early Monday morning.
The fire started at the Legado Luxury Apartments on Main Street around 1:15 a.m. and quickly consumed one of the buildings currently under construction, fire officials said.
At one point, the flames stretched roughly 150 feet into the air. Nearby roads were closed and apartment buildings were evacuated as crews worked to put out the blaze.
"In these dire circumstances, our government agencies and local businesses showcased what is so amazing about living in Prescott Valley. Local hotels offered rooms if anyone was displaced. People worked together to make sure everyone was evacuated in the apartments. Local ambulances stepped up to aid those who could not walk out on their own," Prescott Valley police said in a statement.
The 350,000-square-foot building was a complete loss, and officials estimate the damages to be around $60 million. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
"The Prescott Valley Police Department would like to thank those agencies who came out to help with this incident, and to thank the local businesses who saw the local need and were quick to lend a hand. We are truly blessed to live in and serve such an amazing community."
