Fiery confrontation ends in Arizona man facing attempted homicide charge

The suspect is facing a charge of attempted murder after a fiery incident damaged a property in Yavapai County.

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — A Prescott man was arrested early Friday morning after he allegedly plowed his car into a trailer. The trailer was occupied by a woman who had obtained a court order of protection against him, officials said.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office was dispatched at about 2:45 a.m. to a remote area after 48-year-old James Haynes allegedly drove his car through two gates and into a camper trailer. The driver then allegedly lit his car on fire and tried to gain entry into the trailer by crawling underneath the floor.

YCSO said the fire quickly started to spread throughout the property, resulting in the explosion of propane tanks and ammunition.

The woman inside the trailer and other residents were able to escape to another nearby residence. Haynes could not be immediately located by deputies.

A state helicopter attempted to find the suspect by using thermal imaging and night vision to scan the surrounding area. Haynes was eventually apprehended by a subset of the sheriff's office SWAT unit and was taken to the hospital.

Haynes is facing charges of arson, attempted murder, and violating a court order.
