Heavy police presence in the parking lot of the building housing Kari Lake's campaign office

Several police officers and firefighters were dispatched Tuesday to the candidate's campaign office on Camelback Road.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police and firefighters responded to the building housing the campaign office of U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake on Tuesday to investigate an unknown substance.

The Phoenix bomb squad was dispatched to the office located near 40th Street and Camelback Road to test a substance found in an envelope by one of the building's tenants. Police said the substance was deemed non-hazardous.

"There was no immediate threats to the community and the occupants of the building will be allowed access shortly," Phoenix police wrote in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing. Police did not identify Lake's campaign as the tenant but the candidate said today that her office received a "suspicious envelope."

In a statement on Tuesday, Lake blamed the "radical left" for escalating attacks against her.

"I won’t be intimidated, and those responsible must be brought to justice," the candidate said. "The time to unite against these dangerous, un-American tactics is now.”

A similar incident occurred in 2022 when Lake unsuccessfully ran for governor in Arizona. The Republican candidate's campaign office reported getting suspicious letters that were turned over to Phoenix police.

An analysis done by police determined “there was no powder present and no harmful substance" in the letters, Phoenix police said in 2022. Lake's security team said the office also received a third letter containing white powder that was thrown away by a campaign volunteer.
