PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Prescott police said a suspect was shot and killed by an officer after pointing a firearm at police Sunday.
According to police, officers responded just after 4 p.m. to reports of a suspect firing multiple shots near Warne and Hope streets.
The suspect was firing shots from inside a house at nearby homes and in the direction of officers, police said.
Police said neighbors were evacuated or told to shelter in place as the Special Weapons and Tactics Team arrived.
According to police, during negotiations with the suspect, the suspect pointed a gun at officers. A Prescott officer fired and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect’s identity has yet to be released.
The shooting is under investigation by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. The officer’s name has not been released.
