CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the re-zoning application Thursday for a proposed resort and amusement park in Casa Grande.
Next steps for the proposal include a public hearing and consideration from the city council at a date to be determined.
If it makes it past the city council, the company behind the project, The Block Sports, will begin work on a major site plan and land use study, according to the City of Casa Grande.
The planning documents submitted to the city -- which call for a theme park, water park, retail, entertainment space, housing and even a movie studio -- say Casa Grande is poised for a boost in popularity similar to Orlando before Disney built the park.
In a 12 News verify "Disney in the Desert?" developer Alan Segall said his company was ahead design-wise compared to what Disney had to deal with and was referencing Disney World as an example of the potential for development.
