Number of Arizonans impacted by coding glitch more than doubles. 218,000 people identified as investigation by secretary of state continues.

A new set of 120,000 Arizonans may have been impacted by a coding oversight glitch within the Motor Vehicles Division.

PHOENIX — The number of voters affected by a coding error within the Motor Vehicle Division more than doubled Monday after new information came out from the Arizona Secretary of State.

An additional 120,000 Arizonans may have been impacted by the "data coding oversight" within both MVD and the Arizona voter registration database, according to the Arizona Secretary of State.

The new data includes approximately 79,000 Republicans, 61,000 Democrats, and 76,000 Other Party, bringing the total of impacted individuals to approximately 218,000.

A ruling by the Arizona Supreme Court on September 20 allowing those caught in the oversight issue will stand and apply to the additional Arizonans identified Monday, according to the Arizona Secretary of State.

Election officials will reach out to the affected people following the general election if needed.

At issue is the misclassification of voters with a driver’s license issued before 1996. Arizona requires residents to provide documentary proof of citizenship to vote in state and local elections.

Staff and experts from the Secretary of State’s Office are continuing to work with MVD to investigate if additional voters are impacted.
