PHOENIX — Owners of off-road vehicles seeking to register their vehicle in Arizona will need to complete a new safety course starting on Jan. 1.

As a result of new legislation signed by the governor earlier this year, the Arizona Department of Transportation is requiring at least one owner of an OHV to complete a free course prior to registrations or renewals done between Jan. 1, 2025, and June 1, 2027.

The course consists of watching a 10-minute video followed by a 20-question quiz.

Arizona residents can complete the online course through the ADOT portal and out-of-state residents can complete the course on the Arizona Game and Fish Department's website.

Moving forward, the OHV decals will show law enforcement officials that the vehicle's owner has completed the required safety course.

Arizona Senate Bill 1567 made other changes to how the state defines an "off-road vehicle" and how liquor laws now apply to all "self-propelled vehicles."
