In Flagstaff, Native American vendors are selling authentic hand made jewelry. The vendors have a special agreement between Native Americans for Community Action and the U.S. National Forest Service that allows 16 vendors per day to bring their hand made crafts to sell at the Oak Creek Overlook near Highway 89A.

The only requirements for the vendors is that they have to be Native American (no tribe is excluded), and they can only sell authentic, hand crafted items. At these vendors, you can find everything from jewelry, like rings, necklaces, earrings, and pendants, to sculptures, hand carved flutes, dreamcatchers and even Christmas tree ornaments.

The vendors are chosen at random from a pool of about 300 vendors. Each month, a meeting is held in which the names of 16 vendors are chosen for any given day that month.

Some vendors travel great distances to sell their wares, some even hailing from as far away as Page. Some of the vendors say the ability to sell their art in a stable environment allows them to carry on their tradition. and educate people about their heritage. The agreement between NACA and the U.S. Forest Service originally came to pass to combat illegal vendors at the location in 1987.
