National Weather Service confirms tornado touched down in Tucson

The NWS says they received multiple reports of storm damage in the area of southern Tucson.

TUCSON, Ariz. — The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in southern Tucson last night.

The NWS says they received multiple reports of storm damage in the area of southern Tucson.

According to the NWS, it may have happened on the southeast side north of the interstate.

After comparing their radar data with the reports, the NWS says a weak tornado touched down and damaged the area.

According to the survey done by the NWS, several large trees were uprooted and a shipping container was tossed about 40 feet through a light fence with metal poles. There was also some light roof damage. 

NWS says the damage appears to follow a straight line pattern.
