A 4-month-old girl covered by a fleece-type blanket and locked in an SUV with the windows rolled up in 104-degree heat was rescued Friday by Phoenix police.

Police responded to a call about the child at about 5:30 p.m. and found her inside the vehicle in a clothing store parking lot near Baseline Road and 20th Street.

The business made several attempts to locate the owner of the SUV, but there was no response, authorities said.

Phoenix police were able to remove the child from the car. The girl was taken to a local hospital for an examination and is unharmed.

The mother, Erika Quintanilla, 32, came out of the business with her 12-year-old daughter and told officers she didn't think she was going to be in the store for long.

Quintanilla was subsequently arrested and booked into jail on a charge of suspicion of child endangerment.

Officers determined the outside temperature at the time of the incident was around 104 degrees.

Officers released the baby to her father.
