MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — The Maricopa region is getting a sizeable influx of more than $46.5 million in federal funding to bolster local social services and homelessness programs, the Maricopa Association of Governments announced on Monday.
The most recent Point-in-Time Homelessness Count, which will be fully released in late April, found that thousands of people were still living unsheltered across the region.

In January, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced its most recent round of grant funding. The Maricopa region was granted $46,542,337 in funding for 33 local homelessness programs.
26 of these programs provide housing and services for people and families experiencing homelessness.
“The award represents a nearly 30% increase from previous years, which will mean additional housing and services for people experiencing homelessness in the Maricopa region,” said Rachel Milne, co-chair of the Maricopa Continuum of Care. “All of our first and second tier projects will be funded. This is great news for those in need, homeless service providers, and the regional community.”
