Marana police officer being investigated for off-duty incident

MARANA, Ariz. — A Marana Police Officer is on administrative leave after allegedly breaking into someone's car.

It allegedly happened when he was drunk and off duty while leaving a club early Sunday morning.

The incident happened at a club on the northwest side around 2 a.m. on Sunday.

In a Facebook post, the victim says his car was broken into and trashed by the office, who's right now on leave from the Marana Police Department as the agency launches an investigation.

The Facebook post is gaining traction. A man claims he was walking to his truck after last call at the club Whiskey Roads on the northwest side when he came upon an off duty Marana Police Officer Daniel Bonn, who broke into his car and was belligerent.

Now Marana Police has placed one of its own on administrative leave and the Pima County Sheriff's is investigating if there was any criminal wrongdoing.

"We hold our officers to the highest standards. And if policy violations may have occurred than so be it, we’ll do our due diligence. Obviously we take these allegations very seriously. We look into them, we'll work with the county attorney's office as well as the sheriff's department and then obviously do our part investigating it administratively," Captain Tim Brunenkant of the Marana Police Department said.

As for the third party, police confirm that man is not affiliated with the department.

"We confirmed with the sheriff's department that this third person is not affiliated with the marana police department and this third person is an unidentified or uninvolved party to this incident."

The victim claims his truck now has 800 dollars worth of damage.

We reached out to this individual for an interview, but we did not hear back.

Officer Bonn has been with the department for five years. He'll remain on administrative leave until MPD gets to the bottom of all this.
