TUCSON, Ariz. — A man is dead after police responded to a Tucson home on Friday evening.

Tucson police officers responded to a report of a shooting near St. Marys and Silverbell roads around 8:15 p.m. on Friday. A community member reported a man and a woman arguing, and the man shooting a firearm. While officers were on the way to the scene, additional community members called 911 to report hearing several gunshots in the area.

The woman got away from the scene uninjured and the man went back into his residence. Before hostage negotiators were able to get to the house, the suspect came out of the house with a "long gun," police said.

Officers at the scene identified themselves and gave the suspect commands to put his hands up. The suspect did not obey the commands and officers shot, striking the suspect.

Police said officers rendered aid until the Tucson Fire Department was able to get there, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team will be handling the criminal investigation of this incident and members from the Tucson Police Department's Office of Professional Standards will be conducting a "separate, but parallel," investigation to determine if any policy violations occurred during the incident.

The identities of those involved were not released by police.
