Destructive floods rushed through Havasupai Creek on Aug. 22 and Aug. 23, displacing at least 25 families.

One woman died after being swept away by flood waters.

Biden's declaration makes funds available to those affected by the flooding.

"Federal funding is available to the Havasupai Tribe and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the flooding," the announcement said.

Assistance can include the following:

  • Grants for temporary housing
  • Home repairs
  • Low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses
  • Other programs to help individuals and business owners recover

"Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for the Havasupai Tribe," the release said.

Benigno Bern Ruiz has been named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.
