'Lethal force' used as police serve arrest warrant in Yavapai County

The incident occurred as detectives were serving an arrest warrant for drug trafficking charges. The 45-year-old suspect died.

YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. — A Yavapai County Sheriff's Office detective and Prescott police officer used "lethal force" Wednesday afternoon as they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant in Castle Canyon Mesa.

YCSO said members of the YCSO Quick Response Team attempted to detain 45-year-old Aaron R. Nielson, who was wanted for fentanyl trafficking charges.

While at a residence off of Prescott East Highway, Nielson allegedly brandished a weapon and ignored commands from officers. Two of the officers shot the suspect.

YCSO said Nielson died from his injuries.

No officers were injured. YCSO said it will not be releasing any further information about the incident as the Arizona Department of Public Safety opens an investigation.
