PARKS, Ariz. - The Arizona Department of Transportation said Interstate 40 is now open in both directions west of Flagstaff.
I-40 closed Wednesday morning after a fatal crash about 25 miles west of Flagstaff.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety told drivers to avoid the area as I-40 was expected to be closed for several hours. Limited visibility from a controlled burn in the area was also a factor for the closure.
Drivers were instructed to take a 100-mile detour on U.S. 180 and State Route 64 to avoid the crash.
The freeway reopened just after 9 a.m.
