The man was injured while "descending the ladders at Beaver Falls and had missed a rung that caused him to fall and hit his head," according to the sheriff's office.

Others on the trail came to help the injured man while waiting for first responders.

"Hikers around the area came to help and activated emergency services," the sheriff's office said.

A Western Air Rescue helicopter was brought in from Kingman to bring the man from Beaver Falls to Havasupai Village so that he could then be taken by a Guardian Medical helicopter to a Flagstaff-area hospital for treatment.

The man was not identified.
