A woman was seriously hurt in a fall on a popular hiking trail in Arizona

The woman was hurt after a long fall on the Cathedral Rock trail in Sedona and the city's fire department is offering tips to help keep hikers safe.

SEDONA, Ariz. — A woman has 'significant injuries' after a fall while hiking the popular Cathedral Rock Trail in Sedona, according to the city's fire department. 

In a post on Facebook, the department said the woman fell about 15 feet and suffered "significant injuries." The department did not say when exactly the fall happened.

Sedona fire said recent rain in the area has made the rocks on the trail slippery and that hikers need to plan for the conditions before heading out on the trail. They also had other tips for people planning to hike the famous red rocks of Sedona. 

"Always have a hiking partner, a charged cell phone, and the proper clothing for the environment," Sedona Fire's Facebook post read. "Knowing what trail you are on and where you accessed it from to assist emergency personnel in locating you in case of an emergency." 

The woman who was injured was not identified.
