Flash floods ripped through Havasu Canyon Thursday.

PHOENIX — Havasupai is closed to tourists until further notice, according to a news release from the Havasupai Tribal Council.

The area was affected by flash flooding earlier in the week, leaving hundreds of people stranded and one woman missing. The tribal council met with the Federal Emergency Management Agency as well as state and county emergency management services, the news release states.

As of Saturday afternoon, 60 people still needed to be evacuated, and they are expected to be evacuated within the next few hours.

The trail into Supai, the Havasupai Campground, and the falls are unpassable, and the damage to the campground is extensive, the tribal council said.

"Therefore, the Council has made the difficult but necessary decision to close Havasupai to tourists until further notice," the news release said.

Officials will be in Supai over the next few days to assess the damage and to begin the process of clean-up and repairs.

"The Tribal Council's focus is the health and safety of the tribal members and those that provide services in Supai," the tribal council said in the news release.
