Officers responded to the Acorn Montessori School at 10:15 a.m. for a report that a student had a gun on campus. Officers said there were no bullets in the gun and the student did not have bullets in their possession.

"The student cooperated and said the intention of bringing the firearm was to show it off and there was no direct threat to students or staff," Prescott Valley police said. "While no intention for harm with the firearm was suspected, currently the specifics of this incident are being investigated by the Prescott Valley Police Department."

The student was taken into custody, Prescott Valley police said.

Officials encourage parents to talk to their children about gun safety.
