Graffiti Busters clean up Flagstaff streets

The Graffiti Busters are a city-funded group of volunteers whose sole mission is to rid the streets of Flagstaff of graffiti.

The small team was started in 2010, and is a part of the code compliance department of the city.

Roughly 20 volunteers donate their time to help clean up graffiti around the city. Some volunteers donate just a few hours each month, others come out several times a week.

The team is small, and officials are asking Flagstaff residents to join in the effort to keep the city clean.

Last year, the Graffiti Busters responded to about 1,000 reports of graffiti. So far this year, they've already reached that number of reports.

Another goal of the team is to protect the many murals that are painted on the sides of buildings, particularly downtown.

Flagstaff is known for having artwork on buildings that date back decades. Graffiti around Flagstaff fits all descriptions, everything from random spray painting to gang-related graffiti, and the Graffiti Busters handle it all.
