Gila Bend firefighter fighting for his life after he was crushed by fire truck

The man was airlifted to a hospital after being nearly crushed on Friday evening. Here are the latest details.

GILA BEND, Ariz. — A Gila Bend firefighter is fighting for his life in a hospital after being crushed while performing maintenance on a fire truck, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office

Cody Jordan with the Gila Bend Fire Department was working on one of the engines Friday afternoon. While he was working underneath the cab, the engine fell on him, crushing his chest in several places.

Other firefighters on shift were able to get Jordan out from under the truck and he was airlifted to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of Monday morning, Jordan is in critical but stable condition.

His chest was fractured and he will be on a ventilator to help his breathing. The department expects that Jordan will need more surgeries over the next few weeks.

MCSO looked into the incident and found that a criminal investigation wouldn't be needed, officials said.

The Gila Bend Fire Department is hosting a GoFundMe to help pay for Jordan's medical expenses. If you're interested in helping, you can donate here.

This is a developing story and more details will be added as they are made available.
