The former agent faces up to one year in prison.

TUCSON, Ariz. — A former Secret Service agent pleaded guilty last week to stealing cryptocurrency out of an evidence vault in Arizona.

Anthony J. Evans, 32, of Tucson admitted that while working for the federal agency in Phoenix, he accessed cryptocurrency on a wallet in the agency's vault and transferred about $56,000 to two wallets Evans controlled.

The defendant converted most of the cryptocurrency to dollars and used the money for personal expenses, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Arizona.

Evans faces up to a year in prison when he is sentenced in court on Feb. 19, 2025. He will also be expected to pay restitution.

In addition to providing security to the president and vice president, Secret Service agents are also responsible for safeguarding the country's financial systems.
