Snow pounded Flagstaff over night into the early morning hours as an expected winter storm lived up to its hype.
"Nearly 10 inches and in some areas we got a foot, maybe a little over a foot, of snow last night," Andy Bertelsen, the director of Public Works for Coconino County, said.
Bertelsen says plowing crews are working nonstop to keep things clear. Earlier in the day, heavy snowfall forced the closure of several roads including Interstate 17.
"We're getting some sunshine right now so it's going to melt some of the snow but it's going to refreeze overnight," Bertelsen said.
But there is an even bigger storm on its way and Bertelsen says everyone needs to be prepared.
"Warm clothing, use caution while driving, be prepared in your vehicles with snacks, blankets, water and make sure it's full on gas," he said. "Just be prepared for winter elements because it's a real winter right now."
