Family of Arizona woman killed by dogs seeking $7.5 million from city

Helene Jackson was the victim of a fatal dog attack in June. Her family has filed a claim seeking damages from the City of Sierra Vista.

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — The family of a dog attack victim is planning to seek $7,500,000 from the city of Sierra Vista.

Helene Jackson was the victim of a fatal dog attack in June. Her husband, Michael and their two adult children have filed a notice of claim for damages resulting from the wrongful death of Helene.

Police found Jackson dead in an alley in Sierra Vista after she was attacked by one or two dogs.

The owners of the dogs, 43-year-old Shimira Sanches and 35-year-old Ashlee Sanches, were indicted after the attack.

According to the notice of claim, the dog(s) had attacked another person and a dog in mid-February.

The claim states that Sierra Vista had the ability to impound the dogs and prevent any other attacks but failed to do so.

The claim is for the amounts of $2,500,000 for each family member which totals $7,500,000.
