MESA, Ariz. — A false report suggesting a gun was on the Mesa High School campus Tuesday morning reportedly came from a virtual private network outside of the country, school officials said.
The East Valley campus was placed under lockdown protocols after Mesa police received a report about a firearm. Officers searched the campus and no gun was found, according to the school district.
The school's lockdown was then lifted.
The individual using this VPN to make the gun report appears to have also sent a similar threat to multiple schools across Arizona, school officials said.
Tuesday's incident was the latest of several threats and false reports investigated by the Mesa Police Department within the last couple of weeks. The agency recently announced that multiple juveniles were facing criminal charges for making threats that targeted local schools.
