74 people evacuated, 42 displaced after flooding at new Prescott Valley senior living facility

A frozen sprinkler line led to a water leak, resulting in collapsed drywall on the third floor of a building and significant damage to all three floors.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — A structural collapse at a new senior living facility in Prescott Valley displaced 42 people, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded to Ativo Senior Living at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. When crews arrived, firefighters found a frozen sprinkler line, which led to a water leak. The leak caused the collapse of drywall on the third floor of a building and significant damage to all three floors.

When it originally occurred, 74 people were evacuated and sheltered in place. There were no injuries to residents, staff or emergency personnel, authorities said.

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority worked with the Town of Prescott Valley building officials to secure power to all three floors, but 42 residents have still been displaced.
