PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — More than 300 inmates were evacuated from a Pima County detention center on Friday evening after an electrical fire, authorities said.

An electrical fire started at about 8:24 p.m. on July 12 in the main jail annex of the Pima County Adult Detention Center located on Silverlake Road in Tucson, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The fire originated in a non-housing area of the center, but out of "an abundance of caution," about 380 inmates were evacuated from the main jail annex.

The Tucson Fire Department extinguished the fire quickly and ensured the area was safe. Authorities said all inmates and corrections officers were accounted for and all evacuated individuals were medically cleared.

Two corrections officers were taken to a hospital for further assessment and others are being treated by on-scene EMS, authorities said.

Detectives from the Pima County Sheriff's Department Arson Unit responded to gather evidence and process the scene, authorities said. They are working to determine the cause of the fire.
