DOJ to hold public meeting on Phoenix police investigation Thursday afternoon

The meeting comes almost three months after the Department of Justice released a scathing report criticizing the Phoenix Police Department.

PHOENIX — The Department of Justice will hold an online meeting to discuss the progress that has been made since it released its scathing report on the Phoenix Police Department's practices.

The DOJ revealed earlier this summer that its three-year-long investigation led to the conclusion that Phoenix police had allegedly engaged in a pattern of conduct that violated the constitutional rights of minorities and the homeless population.

The outcome of this type of investigation could be DOJ obtaining a consent decree, which the federal government has used to overhaul police departments throughout the country. Some Valley leaders have expressed opposition to being subjected to a consent decree.

On Thursday at 6 p.m., the DOJ will hold a public Zoom meeting to address developments following the report.

"We will discuss our work in Phoenix, talk about how pattern or practice investigations work, and answer some questions from you all," the DOJ said in a press release.

The public can register for the meeting by clicking the following link: https://www.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_cJNFIhofTb6cq3z9FV7KVg#/registration
